Celebration Place

This Christ-centered curriculum mirrors the lessons taught in Large Group for adults. We refer to it as our “Pre-Covery” program. We strive to partner with parents or guardians who are attending Celebrate Recovery to provide tools that help break the cycle of dysfunction that is destroying so many of our families.

Celebration Place is for ages 4-12, and childcare is available for ages birth to 3 years.
Starts at 6:30p every Friday Night!

THERE IS HOPE

Are you ready to embark on a journey of real and lasting change? Celebrate Recovery is a safe, confidential, and judgment-free space where you can find healing and support, with God at the centre. It’s the place where we talk about the things you don’t usually talk about. No matter what you’re going through, it helps to surround yourself with people who accept your struggles but don’t want to see you stay there. No matter the issue(s) – relationships, co-dependency, drugs, alcohol, anger, food, gambling, pornography, abuse, grief etc. – we invite you to take a step towards healing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can anyone come to Celebrate Recovery?

Anyone and everyone over 18 is welcome to come to Celebrate Recovery to experience the healing that takes place in a Christ-centered environment. We believe there are no individuals that walk this earth who have not dealt with some type of hurt, habit or hang-up.

Celebration Place is a complimentary children’s resource to Celebrate Recovery where kids 4-12yrs old can discover the same truths in age-appropriate ways. Children attending Celebration Place must have a parent attending Celebrate Recovery. Childcare is available for nursery and preschoolers.

Do I have to sign up? How do I get started?

All you have to do is show up and we will walk you through everything.  The entry point for Celebrate Recovery is to come on Friday night.  You are welcome to join us for our Large Group Meeting at 6:30p.

After the Large Group Meeting, we recommend you go to the CR101 group if you’re new to CR. This will give you a little history about CR, who we are, and what to expect if you decide to go to one of our groups next time you come.

Is Celebrate Recovery Confidential?

Yes! Celebrate Recovery maintains strict confidentiality and is a safe place. This promotes an atmosphere of trust and enables recovery. We have a saying that WHO you see here, WHAT you hear here, WHEN you leave here, STAYS HERE!

We are diligent about confidentiality and anonymity. The guidelines protect all of us from judgment and being “fixed.” In a safe place, you can take off your mask and be real and honest without fear. You are 100% in control of when and how much you participate.

Do I have to share?

In the Open Share Groups, absolutely not…until you are ready. You can pass anytime you wish and for as long as it take for you to become comfortable.

In the Step Studies everyone is required to share as the questions are answered.

What exactly are hurts, hang-ups and habits?

All of us face obstacles in our lives that we have had a hard time overcoming. In Celebrate Recovery we call these issues hurts, hang-ups & habits. A hurt, hang-up or habit is something in you or your life that hinders your walk with God and your relationships with others.

The feeling of being hurt is an emotional reaction to another person’s behaviour or to a disturbing situation: abuse, abandonment, codependency, divorce, relationship issues.

Hang-ups are negative mental attitudes that are used to cope with people or adversity: anger, depression, fear, unforgiveness, anxiety, self-esteem, resentment.

A habit is an addiction to someone or something: alcoholism, drugs, food, gambling, sex/pornography, shopping, smoking.

These life problems can be stumbling blocks or stepping stones–the choice is yours!

How often does Celebrate Recovery meet?

Celebrate Recovery meets 52 weeks a year because life’s hurts, hang-ups & habits don’t take a holiday!

Do you have transportation available?

We have a pickup location at Conestoga Mall (at the CIBC Parking Lot).  Please email cr@creeksidechurch.ca for more details or phone 519-725-0265 x254.

Do I have to come for the whole night?

We believe there is value in participating in all components of Friday nights: large group, open share, and connection time. You are welcome to join any and all of them.  We understand that life happens and you are welcome to attend whichever component is applicable and convenient for you.

What is recovery?

In physical health, recovery refers to the process of moving from illness to wellness. Our hurts, hang-ups & habits are like an illness and as we use the tools of Celebrate Recovery we can begin to move toward wholeness. Some say go from bondage to freedom in Christ or from self-reliance to faith in Christ.

Does it cost anything to attend?

Celebrate Recovery is a free resource.

There is a free-will offering during large group which helps support this ministry.

We also have resources for sale.  Participant Guides used in the step studies are available for purchase as are other Celebrate Recovery resources such as Life’s Healing Choices, Celebrate Recovery Daily Devotional, Celebrate Recovery Bible and Your First Steps to Celebrate Recovery.

How does Celebrate Recovery work?

Celebrate Recovery uses the 12 Steps and their Biblical comparisons as a model for living your life. Celebrate Recovery offers a person the opportunity to participate in a group fellowship where love and hope combine with God’s purpose to mend our lives.

What if I can't make it every week?

Please come on the weeks you are able to, you will get something of value each week you attend.
If you join a Step Study, the expectation is to attend weekly until for duration of the study (approximately 8 months). As with any endeavor, the more effort you put into Celebrate Recovery, the more benefit you will gain.

What is the difference between AA (or other 12-Step Programs) and Celebrate Recovery?

The principle difference between AA (or other 12-Step Programs) and Celebrate Recovery is that Celebrate Recovery focuses on Jesus Christ as the true Higher Power, uses God’s Word as the authority in relation to the Twelve Steps, and has a large group which includes worship.  Celebrate Recovery also has 8 Recovery Principles that tie the Twelve Steps to Jesus Christ’s teachings, known as the Beatitudes, given in the Sermon on the Mount.
